Canalside's Southern Adventure

Canalside's Southern Adventure

South for the winter

Update on our travels

Every morning in every place we travel, the Sunsets and Sunrises get better and better.  No two are alike.  We are having a great adventure.

This is our 40th day of cruising. We have learned something new evry day. We learn about navigation, anchorages, piloting and handling the boat in many sea conditions.

Today we saw dolphins for the second time. This time they were really close to the boat and we feel this is a positive sign.

We will work hard now to make an entry everyday so you can share in the adventure.

Our first Anchorage

The morning was spent exploring the village of Catskill. A nice little town with a rather long main street. The weather is excellant and we prepare for take off at about 11:00 am. We say fairwell to our canadian sailboaters again and hope we will see them again.

We travel until about 3:00 pm. We know that this is low water tide so we know that if we have enough water at low tide we will be good. All we need to do is at 2.8 feet to the anchor rode calculation and we have a good hok.

We go to bed with one eye open. It was difficult as we herad a good number of Amtrack trains and an annoying taping caused by waining tide energy.

I got up at 1:00 am and scouted out our position and found that we were again facing away from the yatch club, but in the same relative position.   """"YEAH"""""

South on the Hudson near Catskill

Today we are taking the morning to enjoy Catskill New York and we will be heading south this afternoon. Tonight we will be doing our first anchorage.   Our intention was for us to do this last night but we had a little excitement and want a calming spot.

The picture is of the many creeks that come into the Hudson. Many of them  form very nice water falls.

One week and counting

This has been one of the most exciting weeks we have had in many years. We have traveled to a location just north of NYC and are healthy and happy.    We have had many experiences that we will fill you in on as we go along.  This is the first post only because it has taken us this long to see that we do not have a good way of communicating with our friends and neighbors.    I want all of you that want to be part of this blog to say so and we will include you in a group. If we mess up along the way please excuse us.
